Nowcast and Forecast System of The Eastern Gulf of Mexico

Welcome! You will find here a nowcast and 84-hour forecast of sea levels and currents of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico with the forcing from NWS/NCEP latest Mesoscale ETA model (resolution 12km). This system was designed to be able to automatically FTP the ETA nowcast and forecast fields and run the circulation model every morning. We hope you will find this site useful.
At this stage, the sea level and current fields are driven by tides and the ETA nowcast/forecast wind. ETA heat flux fields will be validated against our in-situ measurements, and will be implemented into the model simulations once they are found decent. ETA nowcast surface wind, sea levels, currents(at 00:00 GMT every day), ETA 84-hour forecast wind, sea levels and currents are shown in the following panels.
DISCLAIMER: This nowcast/forecast system is a research product and under construction. No warranty is made, expressed or implied at this stage, regarding the accuracy or validity of the model results, or regarding the suitability of the model output for any particular application.
